Axar Patel was born on January 20, 1994, in Anand, Gujarat India. Axar was a very silent and calm child. He was very focused on a particular task. However not much is available about Axar’s personal life but in an interview, he said that he never wanted to become a cricketer. Instead, he wanted to become a mechanical engineer. However, his friend saw his cricket skills and advised him to play school cricket. From there onwards his cricketing journey started. Axar, also known as ‘Bapu’ played just 1 match in his debut first-class season. Axar was picked by the Mumbai Indians for INR 10 lac. However, Axar was not given the chance to feature in the playing 11. The very next year he was sold to the Kings XI Punjab for INR 75 lacs. He was impressed with the ball and took 17 wickets in total.
He was also named the ‘emerging player of the tournament’. Due to this, he was retained by the Kings XI Punjab for the 2015 season. He took 13 wickets with an economy below 9 and also scored some crucial runs while batting lower the order. He scored 206 runs in the season. In the 2018 IPL mega auction, Axar was the only player retained by the Kings XI Punjab.
Axar made his ODI debut on 15th June 2014 against Bangladesh under the captaincy of Suresh Raina. Most of the players were new and young in the Indian squad. His debut performance was below average as the left-arm spinner only managed to pick 1 wicket.
The very next year, in 2015 Axar was added to the Indian T20I squad for a series against Zimbabwe. His debut was phenomenal as he picked 3 wickets and was named the man of the match.
