Cricket Career
Conway started his career by playing domestic cricket in South Africa. He was a member of the Gauteng team for the 2015 Africa T20 Cup in August of that year. He participated in all the three matches of the Gauteng’s and scored a total of 53 runs. He went to New Zealand in August 2017 when he was 26 years old to make cricket as his career.
He received a contract in June 2018 with Wellington for the New Zealand 2018–19 season. Conway smashed an unbelievable double ton against Otago at the Basin Reserve during the second round of the 2018–19 Plunket Shield season. With 363 runs in nine matches, he had the most runs scored in the 2018–19 Super Smash. He scored 659 runs in seven games in the Plunket Shield in 2018–19 and he was also the season’s highest run scorer of that tournament. He received the Men’s Domestic Player of the Year title at the 2019 New Zealand Cricket Awards in March. Conway scored an unbeaten 327 for Wellington against Canterbury in October 2019 during the 2019–20 Plunket Shield season.
Conway was selected for the New Zealand A squad in November 2020 in preparation for battle against the mighty West Indies team. Devon Conway was also selected for the ICC men’s T20 world cup squad in August 2021. However he was not able to play the final against Australia after fracturing his hand after getting out against England in the semi-finals.
Conway scored 92 runs in the first Test against Pakistan in December 2022, thus became the first and the fastest New Zealand player to reach 1000 Test runs in 19 innings.
He was bought by Chennai Super Kings in the mega IPL auction for the 2022 edition.
