10 Highest Partnerships in IPL
Table of Contents
1. Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers
“Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers in the same team is like having Messi and Ronaldo in the same team” You’ve heard this quote, haven’t you? When you have 2 alpha cricketers of this caliber you can definitely expect some magic works and this partnership was certainly one of them. 229 runs off 97 balls which is 229 runs off 16.1 overs!
2. Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers
Hard to believe isn’t it? With 20 sixes and 15 fours, Chinnaswamy stadium saw the most insane partnership of all time and this partnership helped RCB win versus Gujarat by as many as 144 runs!
And the bromance continues as RCB’s favorite duo takes the second spot as well, this time with a 215 runs partnership off 102 balls against MI at Wankhede. Well, you may feel that they could have done better looking at the previous one but let me tell you this partnership helped RCB win the match by 39 runs! Smooth work right?
3. Quinton de Kock and KL Rahul
This is hands down the best opening partnership in IPL ever as the opening duo of KL and Quinton remained not out throughout the innings and smashed 14 sixes and 13 fours together. Interestingly this effort at the DY Patil stadium was almost in vain as LSG somehow managed to win by just 2 runs! This match between KKR versus LSG is regarded to be one of the best matches in recent times.
4. Adam Gilchrist and Shaun Marsh
The flashy left-handed Australian duo had put up fireworks show back in 2011 versus RCB at one of the most beautiful cricket stadiums in the world Dharamsala with 15 fours and 14 sixes shared between them. RCB found it hard to have a foot in the contest as they lost the match to Punjab by 111 runs!

5. Chris Gayle and Virat Kohli
When the ‘Universe Boss’ and the ‘King’ join forces, the viewers can always expect a treat to the eyes and RCB’s Iconic duo lived up to its billing with this partnership of 204 runs at the Feroz Shah Kotla stadium in Delhi versus Delhi Daredevils. Interestingly there is a big difference between the number of sixes hit between the 2 batsmen in that partnership as Gayle hit 13 whereas Virat just hit a solitary six.
6. David Warner and Naman Ojha
This is the first time you will see the number of runs scored in the partnership is below 200 but a 189 runs partnership is insane any day, isn’t it? By the way, did you expect to see Naman Ojha on the list? Naman Ojha showcased his talent in this partnership along with David Warner and the duo completely dethroned Deccan Chargers at the Rajiv Gandhi international stadium with 12 forces and 12 sixes along the way.

7. Johnny Bairstow and David Warner
Sunrisers Hyderabad fans will always miss this pair! Warner and Bairstow were always partners in crime when it came to the opposition and both of them together were at their authoritative best when they stitched a mammoth 185 runs partnership at Hyderabad. Both Warner and Bairstow scored a century each and this partnership was the highest opening partnership ever in IPL till 18th May 2022.
8. Gautam Gambhir and Chris Lynn
It was the first match for both KKR and GL in the 2017 season at Rajkot and KKR made a mark with the opening partnership of Gambhir and Lynn as both remained unbeaten and KKR won by 10 wickets with the help of 18 fours and 8 sixes. This opening partnership became the highest ever in IPL at that time and interestingly it was broken by Warner and Bairstow which we just discussed earlier!
9. KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal
Many of us are aware of the fact that KL and Mayank are best friends off the field and their friendship certainly paid dividends when they came out all guns blazing at Sharjah Cricket Ground with a 183 runs partnership against RR. Unfortunately in spite of such an audacious effort, Kings XI Punjab lost the match against Rajasthan Royals.
10. Ruturaj Gaekwad and Devon Conway
If you are a CSK fan then you certainly remember this one, don’t you? This massive partnership at the MCA, Pune came out of nowhere as SRH bowlers were in great form whereas Ruturaj was out of touch and Conway hardly got 2 games to play before this hence this was a relatively very new opening combination for CSK. Together they smacked 18 fours and 10 sixes. Conway remained not out at 85 runs but Ruturaj painfully got dismissed at 99 runs much to his and the fans’ dismay.
