- Ireland’s first national team played against the visiting team of the Gentlemen of England in 1855 at Dublin.
- Soon, landowners in Ireland began observing cricket as a distraction for their farmers.
- The Gaelic Athletic Association imposed Law 27 in 1902 which led to the boycott of foreign games. Anyone who was found playing these games eventually lost the GAA membership.
- In 1923, The Irish Cricket Union was established which failed to get recognition from certain clubs.
- The ban was lifted in 1970 but by then, cricket had declined in Ireland.
- Ireland was included as a full member by the ICC in 1993.
