- LSG was formed in 2022 and is one of the 2 teams introduced in the 10 teams’ season of the IPL.
- The team is based in Lucknow, the capital city of the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.
- RPSG Group of Sanjiv Goenka won the bidding war for a whopping 7090 crore (over 932 million USD). The RPSG bid was 250% more than BCCI’s base price of INR 2000 Crores for the IPL team.
Notably, Goenka Group has bid the highest at 7,000cr in the IPL 2022 new team auction.
Team Owners
The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) franchise came into existence after the end of the IPL 2021 season and has a contract of the next 10 years with the BCCI. Sanjiv Goenka bought the franchise in a draft organized by the BCCI in October 2021 and made history as the costliest IPL franchise in its history.
Team Colors and Logo
- The official team color of LSG is dark blue.
- The franchise credited the mythical bird Garuda for inspiring the team to create a winged emblem and the tri-color represents the pan-India appeal of the Lucknow-based team. Further, they explained that the bird’s body has a blue color bat to signify the game of cricket while the red ball with an orange seam is an auspicious ‘Jay Tilak.’
Home Ground
LSG’s home ground is the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari VajpayeeEkana cricket stadium. The stadium was renamed Ekana Cricket Stadium in honor of the late Atal Bihari Vajpayee, a former Indian Prime Minister. The stadium has a seating capacity of approximately 50,000 spectators and is known for its turning wickets.
Team Captain and Coach
The captain of the Lucknow Super Giants franchise is KL Rahul, however, Krunal Pandya was named as the captain in the later stage as KL Rahul was injured. The head coach of the side is Andy Flower.
IPL Titles
Lucknow Super Giants had never won the IPL, however, it has qualified for the playoffs in both seasons.
