Mohammed Shami was born on 3 September 1990 in Amroha, Uttar Pradesh, India. He was one of five brothers in the family. His father was a farmer and also a fast bowler in his time. The family grew up in the Sahasapur village of Amroha, Uttar Pradesh. He was trained under Badruddin Siddique – a cricket coach in Moradabad.

He trained very hard and asked for the used balls after the match to develop the reverse swing skill. However, due to politics in the team selection, he was not selected for the Uttar Pradesh U-19 team. He decided to change the state to get better opportunities. Shami then moved to Bengal and played for Mohun Bagan. He also got a chance to bowl to the former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly. Mohammed Shami studied at Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Rohilkhand University.

Debut: Shami was named in the ODI squad for the series against arch-rivals Pakistan. He made his debut on 6^th January 2013 against Pakistan in Delhi. It was a low-scoring thrilling encounter between the 2 sides. India scored 167 runs while batting first and restricted the opposition to 157. Shami was given the new ball and he was amazing with it. He took just 1 wicket of Saeed Ajmal but bowled well. He finished with the figures of 9 overs 23 runs and bowled 4 maiden overs. India won the match by 10 runs and MS Dhoni was given the man of the match.

Best Innings:

• Mohammed Shami has won many matches for his team but if we talk about one match then it would be against Afghanistan in the 2019 ICC World Cup. While India defending a low total, Shami took a 5-wicket hall including a hattrick, and became the second bowler to do so.
• Shami made his test debut the same year when he was named to the test series squad against West Indies. Shami made his test debut on 6th November 2013 against West Indies at Eden Gardens Kolkata.
