Team History
- PBKS, previously known as Kings XI Punjab was formed in 2008 and is one of the original eight teams that participated in the inaugural season of the IPL.
- The team is based in Punjab.
- PBKS had many captains, Yuvraj Singh, George Bailey, Mahela Jayawardene, etc. but is yet to win an IPL trophy.
Team Owners
The Punjab Team Owner in 2023 is KPH Dream Cricket Private Limited, co-owned by Mohit Burman of Dabur India, Bollywood actress Preity Zinta, Ness Wadia of the Wadia’s group, and Karan Paul. Burman holds the highest stake (46%), followed by Zinta and Wadia (23% each), while Paul owns an 8% stake. Ness Wadia explained the reason for changing the franchise name was to “relook at things” and rebrand after 13 seasons of IPL.
Team Colors and Logo
- The official team colors of PBKS are red and golden.
- The team’s logo featured, the two lion heads turned to the sides, which were replaced by one enlarged stylized image of the head, drawn in gradient golden lines in the middle of the badge, against a solid red background. The lettering was moved to the upper part of the logo, with the two lines set in different styles and colors, gold and white.
Home Ground
PBKS’s home ground is the Inderjit Singh Bindra Stadium and Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium which are known for their beautiful structure and atmosphere. These 2 stadiums are small as compared to the other stadiums and have a capacity of 25000 & 26000 spectators respectively.
Team Captain and Coach
PBKS had plenty of captains. Currently, the captain of PBKS is Shikhar Dhawan who replaced Mayank Agarwal. He was bought by the PBKS in the 2022 IPL mega auction for 8.25cr and was named the side’s captain in 2023. The head coach of PBKS is Trevor Bayliss.

Team Identity and Fan Base
- Punjab Kings surely doesn’t have the largest fan base but it does have the most loyal fan base of all the teams in the IPL.
- The team’s logo has a lion. these lions bring to life the phrase ‘Sher-e-Punjab’, which literally means ‘Lions of Punjab’. Punjabis like to see themselves as brave, royal, and with huge hearts, qualities best epitomized by a lion. These reflect in their loud, hospitable, and gallant culture.
Playing Style
- PBKS is known for its average performance and disappointing finish to the tournament.
- They always start the tournament on a high note but struggle midway and towards the end.
- PBKS has always changed the captains in every or every 2 seasons. It also hasn’t found its core team and often releases players on the basis of just 1 year’s performance.
