Early Life and Education

Iyer was born on December 6, 1994, in Chembur, Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. He was born in a Tamil family whereas his mother was a Tuluva. Iyer loved cricket and had a keen interest in it since childhood. He was trained by Pravin Amre in his early stages. He was quite good in his studies as well. He completed his school life at Don Bosco High School, Matunga. After completing his school life, Shreyas went to Ramniranjan Anandilal Podar College of Commerce and Economics, Mumbai. He also helped his school team to win many trophies.

Shreyas Iyer Debut and Best Innings

Debut: Shreyas Iyer made his international debut by playing his first T20I on 1^st November 2017 in Delhi against New Zealand. However, Shreyas didn’t get a chance to bat in that match. He got to bat in the next match in Rajkot on November 4 where he scored 23 runs from 21 balls including 4 boundaries. However, India lost the match by 40 runs. Colin Munro was given man of the match for his amazing century.

Best Innings:

• One of the best T20I innings of Shreyas came against Sri Lanka in Dharamsala on 26^th Feb 2022. He scored an unbeaten match winning 74 runs from 44 balls including 6 boundaries and 4 sixes.
• Iyer made his ODI debut soon in the next month. He made his ODI debut against Sri Lanka on 10^th December. He scored just 9 runs of 27 balls. India lost the match by 7 wickets.
• One of the best ODI innings of Iyer came against South Africa in Ranchi on 9^th October 2022. He scored a match-winning 113 runs from 111 balls including 15 boundaries and chased the total being not out. India won the match by 7 wickets and Iyer was awarded the man of the match.
• Shreyas made his debut in the longest format of the game on 25^th November 2021 at Kanpur against New Zealand. He scored a fantastic 105 runs off 171 balls including 13 boundaries and 2 sixes in the first innings. He also scored 65 runs off 125 balls including 8 boundaries and a six in the second innings. The match ended as a draw and Iyer was given the man of the match. It was also the best test innings of his career till now.

The Mumbaikar started his career by playing school cricket and also won several tournaments. Pravin Amre trained Shreyas in Shivaji Park. Iyer was also compared with the legend Virender Sehwag. In 2014, Iyer played for the Trent Bridge cricket team during a tour and played 3 matches and scored 279 runs which included a score of 171 runs.

Iyer made a record of the greatest number of runs a season in the 2015-16 Ranji Trophy, playing for Mumbai. He scored a mammoth 1321 runs which included 4 centuries and 7 half centuries. 

In 2015 Shreyas was acquired by the Delhi Daredevils for INR 2.6cr. He had a tremendous season with the bat as he scored 439 runs in 14 matches. He was also the ‘Emerging Player of the Tournament.’ In the 2018 IPL mega auction, Iyer was retained by the Delhi Daredevils franchise and was named as the captain. He was the youngest captain ever to lead Delhi Daredevils.

Iyer was soon called for the national T20I side. He made his T20I debut on 1^st November 2017 in Delhi against New Zealand but didn’t get a chance to bat. However, he got the chance in the next match and scored 23 runs off 21 balls and got out by Colin Munro. India lost the match by 40 runs and Colin Munro was named as man of the match for his amazing century.

In the very next month, Iyer was handed his ODI debut cap on 10^th December 2017 at Dharamsala. India failed to put up a good score as Suranga Lakmal was on fire with the ball and scalped 4 wickets. Shreyas was consistently performing on the national side as well as in domestic. Shreyas was then given his Test debut cap on 25^th November at Kanpur against New Zealand. Shreyas broke many records in that match and had a dream debut. While batting at no.5 he scored 105 runs from 171 balls including 13 boundaries and 2 sixes in the first innings. He also scored a fighting 65 in the second innings and was named the man of the match.

In the 2022 IPL mega auction, Iyer was acquired by Kolkata Knight Riders for a whopping price of INR 12.25cr and was named as the captain. Currently, Shreyas Iyer is out of IPL due to injury.
