Team History
- KKR was formed in 2008 and is one of the original eight teams that participated in the inaugural season of the IPL.
- The team is based in Kolkata, the capital city of the Indian state of West Bengal.
- KKR had many captains, Sourav Ganguly, Brendon McCullum, Gautam Gambhir being the most successful. It is the third most successful side as they have won the IPL title 2 times.
Team Owners
KKR is owned by the Bollywood superstar – Shah Rukh Khan’s company – Red Chillies Entertainment and Actress Juhi Chawla and her spouse ‘Jay Mehta’. The Knight Riders group also has a team in the Caribbean Premier league and In SA T20 league. Soon it is going to buy a team in the Hundred. The CEO of Knight Riders Group is ‘Venky Mysore’.
Team Colors and Logo

- The logo represents the team’s fighting spirit, its determination to win, and its connection with the people of Kolkata. The KKR logo is not just a symbol of the franchise, but also of the city’s rich cultural heritage and its love for cricket.
Home Ground
KKR’s home ground is the Eden Gardens Stadium, popularly known as ‘a gift of love’ located in Kolkata. The stadium has a seating capacity of approximately 68,000 spectators and is known for its power packed atmosphere during KKR matches.
Team Captain and Coach
KKR had plenty captains with Gautam Gambhir being the most consistent one. Currently the stand-in captain of KKR is Nitish Rana, because the original captain ‘Shreyas Iyer was injured and ruled out of IPL’23. He was bought by the KKR in the 2022 IPL mega auction for 12.25 and was named the captain of the side. The head coach of KKR is Chandrakant Pandit.
